W1 Online Asignment ( foreword & preface about Wikipedia )

First , week 1 Reading have three parts. foreword and two preface about wikipedia.
writer speak the first appeareance of wikipedia is so hard. because many expert have
negative aspect and they said it is impossible in making wikipedia.
but he speak us the many reason of success in wikipedia. first , making global encyclopedia need to many expert of variety field. enternet networking system
is hard to prove written contents. but many hidden experts help to wikipedia's
content to corret mistakes and write a good articles.
There is a other reason of success in wikipedia is numerous communication in
internet network. many feedbacks are available to numerous articles, so time goes
by, the quality of article is grown faster and faster.
Final reason is ethnography. in internet newroking, there are many people that have
different culture , politic , environment. but writer mainly focused on ethnography,
wikidedia is loved by worldwide people.
In preface, writer mainly speak acquaintances that thank to their contribution and
effort to making wikipedia. he also thanks to wikipedians. without them current
wikipedia is nothing here.

Actually, Contacting Wikipedia by meself is first time in 25 years. So I don't perfectly
know about construction of wikipedia and its paradigm. but reading three text,
I realize something aspects. wikipedia is not simple encyclopedia. it have more widely
character and many advantages than encyclopedias.
First, Wikipedia have focused on core concept of collaborative community. this concept
have advantage of spontaneity. nobody enforce to any wikipedians, just they show
knowledge by themselves.
Current world society is focused on Social Networking concept. so networking system
have numoursed power all of fields. This being so, Wikipedia is assembly of the most big datas.

Over that , I so wonder that how deal with sensitive problem in wikipedia. alike Korea's
problem of member of the national assembly, or disinterested disicion of north korea's
president Kim Jeon Eun. there is no solutions about this problem ? from now wikipedia not deal with Deep point of Politics aspect or religious issue. So I want to consider to this solution of problem together.

This reaing is divided intro 7parts. theme is consiste of Nazis and Norms , Wikipedia, The Vision ,The Encyclopedia, The Community ,The Culture ,This Book, in Short.

Wikipedia is not merely an online multilingual encyclopedia. it is different from most of encyclopedia.
the site is only the most visible artifact of an active community.
Unlike general encyclopedia, Wikipedia is both a community and an encyclopedia.

Elements of this good faith culture can be seen in the following conversation about a possible “neo-Nazi attack” upon the English-language Wikipedia.
"Neo-Nazis Attempt to Stack Wikivote on Jewish"
The charge of Nazism has a long and odd history in the online community realm. Godwin’s Law of Nazi Analogies that is One of the most famous aphorisms from earlier Internet discussion groups say “As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one.”
Godwin’s Law speaks to a tendency of online participants to think the worst of one another.
“neo-Nazi attack” no one compared anyone else to Hitler
I interested in appearing naziz and Hitler in wikipedia and it is difficult for me.
Still, I don't well understand. This part is that I will learn from friends.

The Wikipedia Foundation asks the reader to “Imagine a world in which every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge.
That’s wikipedia's commitment. This is wikipedia rule of now.
Wikipedia shares this concern for “the sum of all knowledge” with early visionaries.
However, while most early Wikipedians were probably unaware of these predecessors from a century ago there was a more immediate inspiration

Nupedia was absolutely inspired by the free software movement.
Consequently, the inspiration for a free and open source encyclopedia might be thought of as the most recent stage of a long-running pursuit.
I didn't know about Nupedia. So, I searched Nupedia in wikipedia.
Nupedia was an English-language Web-based encyclopedia whose articles were written by volunteer contributors with appropriate subject matter expertise, reviewed by expert editors before publication and licensed as free content.
I learned start of wikipedia is nupedia.

Wikipedia is the wiki-based successor to Nupedia and its name is a portmanteau of “wiki,” an online collaborative editing tool, and “encyclopedia,”
Wikipedia is an online wiki-based encyclopedia. “Wiki wiki” means “super fast” in the Hawaiian language,
if a page can be read, it can be edited in any browser.
Each wikipedia appears link through which one can log in.
The application of the wiki platform with a few encyclopedic features enables surprisingly sophisticated content creation
the wikipedia has increase with its popularity. now, the world people use wikipedia.
Wikipedia proved to be so successful that when the server hosting Nupedia crashed in September of 2003 it was never restored.
Of course those three million articles on English-language Wikipedia are not of equal quality.

it is difficult to communicate in the English Wikipedia community.
many people can edit. But, wikipedia doesn't appear the hundreds of thousands of contributors. Because they includes anonymously or without a consistent identify, and the wiki gnomes.
In sum, there are the tens of thousands of active contributors who are familiar with the basic practices and norms of English Wikipedia.

The focus of this book is Wikipedia’s collaborative culture.
in the tradition of Godwin’s Law of Nazi Analogies, an initial set of four observations by Wikipedian Raul 654 in 2004 has become a collection of over two hundred laws by Wikipedians describing their own interactions.
ethnomethodology is particularly relevant given its focus on “practical activities, practical circumstances, and practical sociological reasoning”
and there are three core policies. that is “Neutral Point Of View (NPOV)" No Original Research,” and “Verifiability.”
I didn't know this pocicies. As I raad this reading, I have learned wikipedia.
The NPOV policy seeks to achieve the “fair”.
The other two policies of “No Original Research” and “Verifiability” are both about attribution, meaning, “All material in Wikipedia must be attributable to a reliable, published source.”
These three policies have been characterized as the “holy trinity” of Wikipedia
I consider all three of these to be different aspects of the same thing, ultimately.
Such Wikipedia policies and Wikipedian discourse are central to the cultural account present.

hazard in thinking about new phenomena is to aggrandize novelty at the expense of the past. I think because wikipedia open everyone, this hazard is increasing.
Someone with a bad heart may write bad writing.
A facet of the universal encyclopedic vision has been an increase in the accessibility of knowledge.
Finally, in chapter 7 It focus on the cultural reception and interpretation of Wikipedia.

I wonder how did founder of wikipedia flash upon idea that thought to create wikipedia.
In this reading, it say process of wikipedia. But it didn't say before start of wikipedia. I think person made wikipedia is incredible person.
If He watches wikipedia of now, he feels happy.

w1) What do I know about Wikipedia and what do I want to learn about it?-Choi Hyun Hee

Wikipedia's founder is Jimmy Wales who was a computer scientist at MIT. Before it was made, nobody thought that wikipedia will be possible. But he went against everyone's expectation. Although he was a scientist, he mixed computer science ideals with insight about social organization and norms. He thought that wikipedia is not just website but a community like a family. Finally he succeed in developing wikipedia. People who use wiki freely and voluntarily provide their own knowledge in wikipedia. And by sharing their knowledge, collective community was formed. For rich understanding about these phenomena in wikipedia, ethnographies is the most important discipline despite other academic disciplines are also imporatant. Additionally Wales also seems to want to know us importance of humanness of everything inside. As he said, wikipedia is community formed through a practice by many people who don't know each other and live everywhere in the world. They collaborate and their collaboration produced a social good like many articles in wikipedia. It showed us sum of all knowledge is enormous.

Frankley speaking, I didn't know much about wikipedia before I learned about it. .I thought that wikipedia was just a dictionary. So if i lived before wikipedia was made, I would think like any other person that it is impossible. because I thought there will be nobody who use wikipedia for no pay and knowledge in wikipedia will be free-for-all. But wikipedia formed community that shares their knowledge each other, as a result, collective intelligence was made and it has become one of the great encyclopedia.

Wikipedia is encyclopedia that was formed by collective intelligence. And It is made not by specialists who are well acquainted with particular field but by everyone no matter who they are. Many people discuss various topics. I also tried address wikipedia these days discussing topics like other people. And by doing, I felt that wikipedia is familiar with ecosystem. Articles about topics are change everyday. Sometimes my edits are deleted and my article are developed by other person. We communicate with others for making better wikipedia. In class, professor said that he felt interested in wikipedia when he experienced what I experienced theses days like being deleted my editing. I'm angry in this situation yet, but by activating wikipedia more and more, I want to felt interested in wikipedia like professor. And I want to be a member who makes collective intelligence for wikipedia.

Wikipedia was impossible before. a decade ago, nobody imagined wikipedia.
this thought wikipedia is one of the very top web sites on the internet .
And not just the Internet. Wikipedia has come to define the very best in an ethic of a different kind of economy or community. at its core, it is a “collaborative community”. it empowers widely.
I agree wikipedia means collaborative community.
when I did edit wikipedia, I feel collaborative community .
wikipedia is worked voluntarily by people.
I saw many people join forces and made one article.
Most of the world has known of Wikipedia for no more than a few years.
and now, we can know imformations through wikipedia.
Scholars will spend a generation understanding its birth and growth.
But Joseph Reagle’s contribution here is something new and important.
He was a computer scientist at MIT.
sometime, when I saw 'Joseph Reagle' in site, I didn't know what to mean
Wikipedia is a community, but one formed through a practice, or a doing collaboration.I knew Joseph Reagle through this reading.
The collaboration produces a social good that an enormous number of people from around the world rely upon.
“a world in which every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge.”
wikipedia is a great idea.
Most of the encyclopedia appeared to already made frame. but Wikipedia broke the frame.
We need many academic disciplines economics, political science, history, even law to help us understand this phenomenon.
But the first rich understanding must come from ethnographies.
Only a deep reading of the culture of this community can begin to make the important lessons of Wikipedia accessible.
What is most striking throughout this lucid and informed account is the human-ness of everything inside.
No one doubts it produces an encyclopedia that has errors. But it is hard to imagine a more significant and sustained community, manned by volunteers, from teenagers to retirees, working to produce understanding.
wikipedia should have to accuracy. not our just knowledge.
Every serious soul must try to understand this impossibility.
Nor that an important first step in that understanding is found in these pages.
wikipedia need to Sources.
as I read this, I had mind that want to full more and more good informations
I am wikipedia's new pupil. It's hard for me to modify wikipedia at this early stage becoming to know more and more.

When I read this reading, I wondered that it is appropriate information until what information.
there are both good information and bad information in each article.
How far can wikipedia accept the informations ?
I wondered for editing more good information.

wikipedia

my opinion about wikipedia.

Wikipedia introduces person of the many infromation.
But, people who doesn't like the person in wikipedia can write  wrong information and slander information.
This part, wikipedia have to be careful.
people should not write wrong and slander information in wikipeia.
Because wikipedia opens every people, people have to wirte neutral view and action ethically.
Otherwise, people who looks wikipeia may be believe the wrong infromation.
